ALP National Secretariat is seeking expressions of interest for an exciting campaign role in our digital team:

Social Media Manager

The Social Media Manager is responsible for maintaining Labors online social media channels in support of the National Secretariats digital strategy. The role creates and delivers innovative online content to support campaigns, fundraising and supporter engagement.

The role will work with members of the digital team to produce content for Labors social channels.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of our social media strategy.
  • Develop and source online materials including graphics and video content for the ALPs social channels.
  • Ensure content is compliant with regulations and policies governing electoral material and political fundraising.
  • Assist with other digital campaigning tasks as necessary, including email campaigning, online advertising and training members of the party and staff regarding social media best practices.
  • Define and meet most important social media KPIs.
  • Measure the success of social media campaigning including monitoring user engagement.
  • Collaborate with MPs and Labor team members on content initiatives.
  • Communicate with progressive organisation professionals via social media to create a strong network.
  • Comply with employment laws and all internal policies including the staff code of conduct,OHS, anti-discrimination, privacy, security, use of ALP IT resources, financial delegations, and record keeping.

Essential skills

  • An understanding of organising theory.
  • 3+ years' experience in digital campaigning or social media management.
  • Excellent creating effective content for social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc) and understanding of social media best practices.
  • Experience with digital advertising platforms including Google Ads and Facebook Ads Manager.
  • Ability to learn new digital platforms quickly and independently.
  • Ability to use graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
  • Ability to analyse and make conclusions from basic data.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, thoughtfully and to flexible mediums.
  • Commitment to the values of the ALP.
  • Capacity to exercise judgement, discretion, and initiative within a politically sensitive environment.
  • Experience with doing audience and persona research.
  • Familiarity with web design and publishing.
  • Excellent multitasking skills.
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills.
  • Great interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Capacity to work to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work without close direction and supervision.

Desirable skills

  • Ability to use video editing tools such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier Pro.
  • Experience with online community organising tools such as NationBuilder.
  • Ability to use web development languages such as HTML and CSS.

About the role

This is a full-time appointment based in Canberra or Sydney.
