PMB Defence is a world leading manufacturer of submarine battery systems, delivering and supporting the main storage batteries for the Collins Class Submarines. PMB is growing its business by winning new work to develop and integrate new technology battery solutions for the Australian Future Submarine (AFS), UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) as well as other international partners.
About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience in R&D, design and technical problem solving to become involved with developing new technology battery systems for a global market. This role is based in our Adelaide office. This is a career defining opportunity to develop revolutionary technology for submarines. Key responsibilities will include:
Mechanical engineering design, development and technical leadership for PMBs new technology main storage battery systems;
Developing product concepts into draft designs, then detailed designs;
Mentoring of junior mechanical engineers;
Participating in project planning and cost estimation as required;
Coordinating research and development activities in conjunction with the customer and R&D partners;
Providing expertise and advice as required to the Engineering and Production Departments in support of existing contracts.
The successful candidate will have:
Extensive experience in design and product development (end to end), with skills in structural and thermal design;
Experience working on Defence projects within Australia (desirable)
A strong technical skill base and the desire to continue to grow your technical knowledge a genuine passion for engineering and technology;
Self-motivation and ability to self-manage. You will be the subject matter expert for the mechanical design of this product.
Knowledge of and experience with thermal and structural design related to military shipboard equipment (desirable);
Knowledge and experience with packaging of electrical and electronics equipment (desirable);
Experience in Systems Engineering and Safety (desirable).
Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline (Mechatronic, Aerospace or Automotive), with Postgraduate qualifications desirable;
Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and Drug & Alcohol screen;
The ability to obtain an NV1 Australian Defence Security clearance (essential), or hold an existing clearance (desirable)
