About the Role
Lead solutions to complex urban planning issues and deliver on Councils commitment to manage growth and keep our City a highly liveable, accessible and sustainable place. Reporting to the Head of City Policy in our City Strategy, Design and Sustainability Department you will lead multi-disciplinary project teams to develop new municipal wide and place-based strategies, policies and plans.
Lead the development of land use and development strategies, including Structure Plans and Frameworks for key activity centre and renewal precincts, for managing complex inner-urban planning and design issues.
Lead the implementation of complex planning scheme amendments.
Prepare policy, identify and analyse issues and provide strategic advice to internal departments, the community and Council.
Lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects and tasks, on time and to budget.
Provide management support and professional expertise to the Department.
Skills and Experience
At least eight (8) years experience in managing a range of complex strategic planning projects, preferably within a local government setting;
Highly developed skills in communicating complex ideas and engaging with a range of stakeholders, expert negotiation skills and a proven ability to influence outcomes
Proven ability to think strategically, analyse complex situations, develop creative solutions and achieve outcomes that advance desired Council outcomes.
A thorough understanding of the Victorian Planning System, Victorian Planning Provisions and the ability to develop and implement planning policy / strategies through statutory mechanisms.
Experience in leading or mentoring professional staff, and contributing to a collegiate work environment.
