Senior Secondary Electrical Engineer

UGL is currently looking for an experienced Senior Secondary Electrical Engineer to become a key member of the Power Utilities teams based in Brisbane and Sydney.

About the role

The Senior Secondary Engineer will build and maintain strong relationships with the in-house construction teams and our client to effectively deliver to client expectations. This opportunity will see you join our multi-disciplined in-house engineering team working to solve complex problems throughout the project lifecycle across all known aspect of secondary system design involvement. You will:

  • Plan and conduct professional engineering work on relevant aspect of EHV/HV Strategic Planning and Conceptual Design
  • Provide a detail design services, consult, recommend and advise on specialist engineering areas that would include but not be limited to: Protection Detailed Design (Protection Logic/Setting files, etc.); Primary Plant and Secondary System Equipment Specification and Procurement (CT, VT, CB, TFMR, etc..); Protection/Control Detail Schematics and Integration; Grid Metering, Power Quality and High Speed Monitoring Installations; Load flow, Fault level and dynamic studies and analyses; Engineering Network/Data Network Architecture and Configuration; Control System Detailed Design and Configuration (EMS and Distribution Automation); Communication Systems (including Data Network and Bearer Network systems design); General AC & DC System Specification and Distribution Design; Power Generation, including renewable energy sources detailed design involvement and system integration, etc.
  • Provide technical support to the Business Development and Tendering as required.
  • Assist with site commissioning if required (short term in general)
  • When required, assume the role of Design (Package) Leader in accordance with the Company's Engineering procedures


About You

  • Engineering Degree
  • Understanding of the power system and power utilities operational requirements and preferably utility-based or engineering consultancy design experience
  • Strong computer skills and industry experience in a diverse range of relevant Electrical Engineering software packages / equipment suppliers and products.
  • Proactively seek to continuously improve performance, deliverables and work efficiencies
  • Positive approach to safety
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent relationship building, problem solving, commercial and negotiation skills
