This well-known family enterprise was established in 1953, as a four-stand walk through dairy on a 100-hectare farm. In 1970 the family expanded into a five a side herringbone dairy, milking 100 cows.

The next expansion came in 1993, with a move to a new 50 stand rotary dairy, 200 cows, and a goal of expanding to 300 cows.

Since then, they have expanded again and are milking in excess of 1000 cows, producing 10 million litres of milk every year and rearing 1000 calves annually. This equates to running 2500 cattle in total.


The Herd Managers focus will be on supervising the daily milk harvesting routine and managing the health and wellbeing of all home farm stock.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure milk is produced to the highest quality level
  • Ensure the farm is maintained in a neat and tidy state at all times
  • Oversee the prescribing and implementation of the animal husbandry program including training and supervision of staff; this includes mastitis, reproduction, herd health programs, young stock management and preparation of culling lists
  • Ensure appropriate and timely communication with the Dairy Manager occurs as required to proactively manage the farm, stock and people
  • Determine pasture availability based on growth rates and rotation length and oversee its allocation including setting up rotation plan and use of temporary fencing
  • Organise and supervise staff involved with the dairy routine to ensure all functions are completed to the highest standards
  • Ensure all employees work in a healthy and safe manner, not adversely affecting the health and safety of themselves or others

Skills and Experience

  • Comprehensive experience managing dairy operations of at least 500 head, and technical knowledge of animal husbandry and pasture management
  • Experience in leading a milking team, teaching and ensuring smooth daily running of the milking routine
  • Strong communication skills and composure
  • Good observational skills / attention to detail
  • Good animal health diagnosis and treatment knowledge


  • Post-secondary qualification in Agriculture, Herd Management or Farm Management
  • Drivers Licence


An attractive remuneration package, including a work vehicle and comfortable on farm accommodation will be negotiated to reflect skills and experience.
