Mates4Mates is recognised nationally for providing progressive, integrated support and rehabilitation programs for veterans and their families, helping to rebuild and save lives. More than 4,600 people have directly benefited from our services and continue to access support regularly. With over 25,000 face-to-face connections provided by our staff each year, veterans and their families are supported to connect, recover, and move forward after service-related injuries.
This is an ongoing, part time role.
The purpose of our Liaison Officer is to connect current and ex-serving ADF members, and their families to services offered through our programs. Our Liaison Officer promotes Mates4Mates program offerings to our Mates to encourage their uptake of holistic veteran health services, specifically our service streams that include psychological services, physical rehabilitation and wellbeing services and social connection programs.

The day to day of this role will consist of:
Support all cultural change initiatives through word and action
Take active accountability for continued improvement and innovation within area of responsibility
Identify, establish and maintain key working relationships with stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of services.
Manage your time whilst supporting others, to deliver work of a high standard in line with the Mates4Mates vision, mission and values
Design and implement social connection activities as part of our holistic approach to positive health outcomes for Mates and their families. This will include events local to the Family Recovery Centre and Outreach programs
Encourage and action feedback around programs and service delivery from Mates and their families to ensure continual improvement, relevance and alignment to client needs
Ensure that social connection activities are actively promoted through various channels to Mates and their families to encourage maximum participation
Actively engage as a primary point of contact with our Mates and their families to ensure they receive high levels of connection when accessing our services.
Represent Mates4Mates at external events to promote awareness within the ADF community on our holistic approach to Veterans health through providing information on our social connection activities, psychological and physical rehabilitation programs
Seek out opportunities and provide recommendations to the wider team and North Queensland Manager on ways to increase our supporters. This includes increasing numbers of registered Mates and their families, community fundraisers and local in-kind support
Our ideal candidate
Relevant history of training and/or service in the ADF or a close connection; or demonstrated experience working with current or ex-service personnel in a similar role which has created a strong understanding of the issues facing our Mates and their families
High levels of self-awareness and ability to adjust your communication style to suit your audience
Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanour when supporting clients who may be struggling, experiencing hardship or potentially vulnerable.
Flexibility in approach to work when unplanned demands of client needs conflict with meeting deadlines
Basic to intermediate computer skills, including the use of social media, to engage with your client group and undertake administration tasks relevant to the role.
Previous experience delivering support services in the community, including undertaking risk assessments and completion of relevant documentation and reporting
Formal qualifications in providing peer support or community services or mental health services.
