About the role

The Mechanical Fitters role includes but is not limited to:

  • Studying drawings and specifications to determine the suitable material, method, sequence of operations and machine settings
  • Fitting fabricated metal parts into a variety of products
  • Assembling metal parts and subassemblies to produce machines and equipment
  • Check fabricated parts and assembled parts for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments
  • Set up guides, stops and other controls on machining tools
  • Setting up prescribed cutting and shaping tools in machines and presses as setting up controls for textile machines
  • Forming metal stock and castings to fine tolerances using machining tools to press, cut, grind, plane, bore and drill metal
  • Cutting, threading, bending, and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines
  • Diagnosing faults and performing operational maintenance of machines and overhauling and repairing mechanical parts and fluid power equipment
  • Responsible for the maintenance of accordance with QC Standards
  • Test equipment under the relevant supervision, as well as recording test data
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment maintained and stored in a safe and clean condition
  • Follow all safety instructions and procedures outlined in the WATMAR Policy handbook
  • Other duties as directed

  • White Card
  • Trade certification/qualifications relevant to the Job Description
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Positive and proactive approach to safety
  • Current National Police Clearance 


  • Forklift Licence
  • Rigging/Dogging tickets
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Working at heights
  • Defence and/or Marine Industry experience
  • Under pre-employment medical (Drug and Alcohol screening)
  • Willingness to work overtime if required
