Farm Manager

Ruby Management is seeking a Farm Manager to run one of our poultry broiler farms located at Port Wakefield. We are looking for candidates with a desire to develop and progress with a company who is steadfastly proud of its culture, professional cultivation and training of staff. The people we are looking for will be responsible for the care and husbandry of chickens following regulatory standards and in compliance with the current processor guidelines. They are also responsible for the day to day running of the site. This includes general maintenance and upkeep to a high level of health and safety regulations and to ensure that the farm is kept clean and tidy at all times.  The Farm Manager is also responsible for the training and management of the staff that work on-site.

  • Previous poultry/livestock and mechanical/electrical experience will be well regarded.
  • A willingness to reside on-site
  • A willingness to work on a rotating roster which includes weekends and public holidays.
  • A commitment to workplace health and safety.

Primary Duties:

  • To ensure that the site is attended to at all times when there is livestock on-site, by a qualified member of staff.       
  • Responsible for on-farm bird rearing and animal health.
  • Ensure that mortality is removed.
  • Monitor and adjust the controlled environment systems within the sheds.
  • Ensure that the staff are trained in all aspects of the work, and have access to the required equipment.
  • Record data, i.e. grower app, bird weights, mortalities, feed on hand and gas levels.
  • Manage feed ordering and delivery systems to ensure correct feed is on hand.
  • Take readings of the gas tanks and reorder gas to ensure that the correct level is maintained.
  • Manage and reorder supplies.
  • Operate and maintain machinery.
  • Computer skills with proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office
  • Communicate with the Farm Overseer on all matters relating to the operation of the site.
  • Liaise with the processors and provide all requested information.
  • Liaise with and organise contractors to coordinate the cleanouts.
  • Set up sheds ready for placement and follow all placement procedures.
  • Adhere to all company procedures. These include, but are not limited to, timekeeping procedures, Bio-security procedures, Freepa and RSPCA Regulations.
