Welding Inspector


CGK Group has been engaged to recruit a full-time Welding Inspector to provide welding inspection services for engineering, manufacturing, and quality departments for various clients. 

You will be responsible for measuring and checking fabrication activities and ensuring that the welding process is carried out in accordance with the relevant standards, quality expectations and project specifications for either structural steel or pressure components. 


Responsible for overseeing all the activities and duties of welding staff and ensuring that the welders work within the set quality and project specifications.  

  • Interpretation of the intent and ensuring the requirements of codes, standards and specifications are met.
  • Ensuring that a procedure is available, has been approved and is being employed in production.
  • Verifying parent material against documentation and markings.
  • Verification of correctness of welding consumables (electrodes, filler wires, consumable inserts, gases, fluxes etc.)
  • Verification that dimensions, fit-up and weld preparations are in accordance with specifications.
  • Verification that any required preheat is in accordance with the specified procedure.
  • Surveillance during welding to verify compliance with specified procedures including any preheat, interpass temperature control and post heat requirements.
  • Visual inspection and dimensional checks of completed weldment against specification requirements and drawings.
  • The study and cognisance of NDE results on any welding work for which the welding inspector is responsible. Where the duties of the welding inspector include using NDE methods such as liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography or ultrasonic inspection then it is suggested that he/she obtains certification in accordance with the related approval schemes.
  • Evaluation of and preparation of inspection reports for the employer or the client.



  • Proficient use of standard Microsoft office applications such as Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing through memos and engineering reports.
  • Must be able to work well with others in a team setting.
  • Knowledge and practical skill and experience of common welding processes such as
  • Experience in welding carbon and low alloy steels
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of Australian and International Standards
  • SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW and SAW and new modified versions of.


A competent Welding Inspector shall have had suitable training and experience in the fabrication and inspection of welded structures and shall comply with one or more of the following:

  • International Institute of Welding diploma - IIW Welding Inspector, at the appropriate level.
  • A Welding Technology Institute of Australia (Weld Australia) Certificate as a Welding Inspector
  • A Certification Board of Inspection Personnel (CBIP) New Zealand Welding Inspector
  • A Certificate as a structural steel supervisor in accordance with AS1796, / AS2214.
