At CMS Electracom we design and manufacture a broad range of electrical products which are marketed throughout Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Asia, and United states and are committed to continued expansion in this area.

We are looking for a talented Product Designer who has a proven track record designing products with a special emphasis on innovative light gauge sheet-metal design. It is expected that you will have worked in this type of design role for at least 2 years and that this will be demonstrable with a portfolio of self-designed sheet-metal products, which have gone through to commercial sales.

It would be most desirable if you came from a sheet-metal trades background and have moved into the Design realm now using SolidWorks on a daily basis.  It would also be advantageous to have furthered your design skills by studying Industrial Design, Engineering Drafting/Design or equivalent and have skills in designing across a broad range of metal and plastic manufacturing methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sheet-metal and plastic product design & customisation of current products
  • Create detailed assembly/part drawings and renderings
  • Prototyping and testing of products
  • Liaise with sales, manufacturing and production

Essential Skills:

  • Experience designing for manufacturing methods like turret punch, press brake and laser cutting
  • Has strong demonstrated skills creating sheet metal and plastic product design using Solidworks
  • Has good attention to detail
  • Be a good team player
  • Good written and verbal skills in English

Desirable Skills, but not essential:

  • Experience in Solidworks PDM/ Vault is an advantage
  • Knowledge of designing products for plastic injection moulding and sheet metal press tools

This is a full-time position located at Kings Park in Sydney. You must have the right to work in this locality to apply for this role.
