Accounts Assistant - Part Time, Fixed Term

The Organisation

Gowrie Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation, established in 1939, committed to our purpose to champion good early childhood education and care.  

Due to upcoming parental leave an opportunity has presented itself for an ambitious Accounts Assistant to join our Finance team at Docklands on a 7 month fixed term contract (40 hours per fortnight).

The Role

As the Accounts Assistant you will work closely with our Finance team and key stakeholders throughout the organisation to ensure the timely and accurate payment of our suppliers, and provide general Finance support. 

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Manage and process weekly creditor payment runs ensuring that all payments are accurate, approved in line with delegations of authority, and meet relevant supplier payment terms
  • Follow up and resolve invoice queries which will include completing supplier statement reconciliations, and liaison with both internal stakeholders and external creditors
  • Assist other members of the finance team with general accounting, compliance, accounts receivable and payroll related duties
  • Develop strong relationships with internal staff and external parties to help support Gowries operations
  • Contribute to improvement initiatives to help strengthen and streamline finance processes. 

You will hold a relevant accounting/ bookkeeping qualification and have:

  • Experience working in a finance team with a demonstrated high attention to detail
  • Be proficient in the use of financial management systems (Xero experience would be well regarded) and strong excel skills
  • Highly developed organisational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and support productive working relationships
  • Demonstrated flexibility and a willingness to adapt and work effectively within a variety of diverse situations
  • Able to perform autonomously, monitoring their own work and taking responsibility for outcomes
