Our Catchment Protection and Land Management Team is looking for a Senior Aquatic Monitoring Officer to join our diverse and passionate team of specialists. If you love providing advice and thinking on your feet, this job may be for you.

Who are we

Icon Water is responsible for owning and operating Canberra's network of water and wastewater infrastructure and assets including dams, reservoirs, treatment plants, water and sewerage pumping stations to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water and reliable sewerage services.

 What would be my day-to-day

  • Managing complex environmental issues (aquatic focus) and delivering environmental management plans
  • Giving advice on environmental impacts and aquatic monitoring to inform decision-making and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Mentoring team members on environmental impact and aquatic monitoring issues, environmental risk assessments and obtaining external environmental approvals
  • Delivering complex ecological monitoring programs via contractors, procedures and training
  • Reviewing technical reports
  • Key stakeholder liaison and communication (Government regulators, Universities, community groups, water industry associations and internal working groups)

What are we looking for

Along with your energetic and analytical nature, you will have:

  • Knowledge and well-developed skills in conservation land management, aquatic ecology, environmental impact assessment and legislation
  • Demonstrable experience in researching, creating and implementing environmental advice
  • Significant experience in collaborating with government policy makers and regulators on environmental compliance
  • Strong communication skills and experience working alongside community groups in environmental programs
  • Tertiary qualification in environmental management, science, engineering or similar
