The Privacy & Compliance Officer is an integral member of Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) Governance Group and is responsible to the Assistant Director Privacy & Compliance and has a key role in ensuring compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act), Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) and Public Interest Disclosure Act 2013 (PID Act).

Our ideal candidate will have:

• A thorough understanding of the legislative compliance environment and the processes and systems used to achieve quality outcomes.
• Experience in providing comprehensive advice and delivering specialised services that support staff in adhering to legislative requirements, including educating employees in appropriate privacy decision making practices.
• Practical experience in applying relevant legislation, policy, and exercising sound judgement and decision making in the management of complex Privacy and FOI matters.
• Proven experience in delivering specialised services that support the organisations legislative requirements, whilst operating autonomously and adhering to strict legislative deadlines.
• Proven experience in providing a high level of customer service and managing customer expectations.
• Strong communication skills (interpersonal, oral and written) to build and manage stakeholder relationships at all levels, and to ensure effective planning and coordination of input to, and final editing of, succinct responses to legislative and compliance related queries.
• Experience in research, analysis and preparing briefs/reports, particularly in the application of legislation.
• The ability to work on multiple work streams concurrently with a proven ability to achieve results, manage competing priorities and adhere to strict deadlines in a high pressure environment.

Eligibility: The remuneration package is negotiable and includes a base salary, potential performance bonus and Commonwealth funded superannuation. Employment with DHA is conditional on successful applicants demonstrating that they are an Australian citizen, meeting the required medical standards, achieving a satisfactory character clearance and obtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level.

Note: Non-ongoing position(s) will be offered for a specified term of 6 to 12 months with the possibility of extension depending on operational requirements.
