  • Appointment Type:  Full time, continuing. Initial part-time options with a transition to full-time hours could be considered for the right candidate. Job-share is also a possibility.
  • Macquarie University (North Ryde) location

The Role

Reporting to the Faculty Research Manager, the Research Proposals Officer will play an important role in supporting the acceleration of impactful research discovery and achieving ambitious funding targets in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences by supporting our researchers with the development and submission of high-quality research grant proposals. The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Identify and promote funding opportunities to academic and research staff to encourage the development of targeted grant applications.
  • Provide expert advice, training and support to researchers on the development and submission of quality research proposals.
  • Monitor, coordinate and report on the submission of research proposals to external research funding bodies.
  • Develop, implement and/or improve administrative systems, processes, guidelines and procedures to support the Faculty’s management of research applications and funding.
  • Build and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

About You

You will demonstrate a strong understanding of research grant applications and strategy, and major funding bodies in Australia. To succeed, you will be able to assist the team in developing processes, and providing tactical and strategic advice, to assist our academics and researchers in their delivery and submission of high-quality grant proposals. Your initiative, excellent communication skills and systems knowledge will help support funding applications and research management across the spectrum of our departments.

Selection Criteria

  • Knowledge of research grants, funding bodies and grant application processes, particularly the major funding bodies in Australia and especially the NHMRC, ARC and MRFF.
  • Proven experience in working with academics and researchers to refine research proposals to deliver high-quality grant applications.
  • Experience working in the higher education sector or with research grant funding applications.
  • Experience using research management systems or similar electronic database management systems.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including academics and researchers.
