The Role

Our client, a globally renowned top-tier law firm, is seeking a Trust Clerk / Assistant Accountant to join its Finance team in Sydney, on a fixed term contract basis.

The role is responsible for processing and coordinating all aspects of the Sydney trust and controlled money accounts and assisting with monthly Management Reporting. 

Responsibilities

Trust Account Processing

Process payments and receipts in a timely manner and ensure documentation is appropriately authorised and filed in accordance with prevailing trust rules.

  • Prepare daily and monthly bank reconciliations for trust and controlled money accounts
  • Produce daily and monthly reports for trust and controlled money accounts
  • Prepare and distribute monthly and annual client trust statements to Partners
  • Coordinate opening and closing of controlled money accounts as needed and ensure that proper documentation is maintained
  • Add and remove trust and controlled money bank account signatories and ensure the signatory listing is current
  • Review and clear aged unpresented cheques on a regular basis
  • Review and clear dormant trust account balances on a regular basis
  • Liaise with lawyers and partners on all aspects of the trust and controlled money accounts
  • Liaise with banks for account queries and changes
  • Respond to all trust and controlled money enquiries in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with the Uniform Law General Rules
  • Liaise with and provide information to the auditors
  • Monitor cheque stocks and reorder when needed

Assistant Accountant

  • Maintain timekeeper budgets
  • Prepare monthly productivity and total hours reports
  • Prepare Monthly Non Billable Hours report, including review/adjustment of hours where required
  • Monthly casual timesheet reporting
  • Prepare weekly and monthly client reports
  • Assist with adhoc reporting queries and monitoring of Reporting mailbox

About You

  • Bank reconciliation experience required
  • Book keeping experience preferred
  • Prior trust accounting in a law firm or professional services environment preferred
  • Management Accounting experience preferred
