Due to their recent expansion of operations, this privately-owned horticulture company is seeking to appoint a Nursery Production Manager with appropriate experience and skills in substrate propagation.

Work where you can make a difference If you have experience in nursery management, including substrate growing systems, greenhouse irrigation and climate automation systems, and propagation, as well as excellent leadership, organisational, and time management skills, Red Jewel has the ideal role for you. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual who has had exposure to horticulture and nursery operations, particularly with container-based propagation techniques and substrate propagation systems. You are someone who understands and demonstrates leadership skills aimed at engaging and motivating teams to achieve results. Using your excellent problem-solving skills, you are able to find solutions and outcomes and work efficiently in a high-pressure environment to achieve those outcomes within strict timeframes. Our ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all operations relating to the greenhouse production and maintenance of berry plug plants, ensuring efficient and timely propagation, planting, growing, cultivating, pest management, harvesting and trimming/packing for shipping when required. The Nursery Production Manager will also be responsible for implementing bio-security and certification protocols, and planning in respect of workplace and labour utilisation in the nursery, tracking and reporting of cost efficiencies and opportunities in container plant production. This is a heavy hands-on role with supervisory responsibilities as well as the capability to report on specific area production metrics. Preferred candidates must have:
National Criminal Record Check;
Current unrestricted manual Driver’s Licence
Tertiary Qualifications in Agriculture or Horticulture;
Hold a Chemcert or be willing to obtain;
Demonstrated extensive relevant experience in Agriculture and/or Horticulture;
Demonstrated understanding of container-based propagation techniques and substrate propagation systems;
Previous demonstrated experience in substrate growing systems and managing greenhouse irrigation and climate automation systems;
Demonstrated experience in propagation and optimising plant development and implementing and maintaining bio security protocols.
Demonstrated previous supervisory skills in a nursery;
Demonstrated ability to prepare and report on operating costs using basic accounting / financial systems;
Demonstrated ability to navigate Microsoft office programs such as Excel and Outlook;
Demonstrated problem-solving skills;
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with limited supervision;
Self-motivated to meet specific goals and objectives within strict deadlines;
Demonstrated track record in establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships both within and outside the business;
Demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage a small team;
Excellent team work always striving to work collaboratively with all staff;
Demonstrated excellent organizational, coordination, and time management skills;
Demonstrated ability to work well in high-pressure scenarios, be resilient, and able to adapt quickly and efficiently to change;
Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
Demonstrated reputation for integrity, ethics, and values, and
A flexible, tolerant, and cooperative attitude.
At least 2 - 3 years’ experience in substrate growing systems, managing greenhouse irrigation and climate automation systems, and propagation and plant management.
