Community Relations Officer

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is a major national organisation responsible for managing infrastructure maintenance, capital upgrades and the movement of trains across the Interstate railway track in South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland and on the Hunter Valley coal rail network. ARTC is also delivering the $10 billion Inland Rail infrastructure project connecting Melbourne and Brisbane.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Community Relations Manager – Corporate Affairs and People, the Community Relations Officer will provide timely responses to external stakeholders (predominantly community members and internally, local frontline leadership), and provision of community feedback regarding environmental concerns and complaints and support the management of government business such as Ministerial correspondence matters and briefs.

The role will provide input and support for systems management and improvement projects as required, monitor and action regular data entry, database management and reporting using systems including Consultation Manager and Power BI.
About you:
Knowledge, skills and experience required for this role:

• Tertiary qualifications in community, public or stakeholder relations, media or related field or proven related experience in community engagement and/or sustainability program management.
• Demonstrated experience in a similar role.
• Proven experience in issues management, community relations or government relations. Experience in a similar sector or industry desirable (e.g. transport, infrastructure, mining, resources, energy industry or local government).
• Community contact centre and complaints handling experience.
• Understanding of the specific communications and stakeholder challenges associated with transport or other major infrastructure.
• A high level of consideration and sensitivity toward community concerns and ability to advocate and represent these concerns and stakeholder related issues within the business.
• The ability to manage multiple tasks and an appreciation for timely and appropriate communications.
• Well-developed writing and presentation skills.
• Experience in managing communications and community relations activities and working with planning and environmental personnel.
• Experience in database management and/or stakeholder communications software.
• Ability to engage and negotiate with senior management.
• Understanding and experience of community engagement principles and sustainability or corporate social responsibility strategy would be highly considered.

Desirable for this role:

• An understanding of State and Federal Government planning and environmental policy standards and requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in design, review and implantation of community engagement systems, procedures and tools.
• Experience in development and implementation of community engagement training programs.
