Christmas Island Phosphates (CIP) is a subsidiary of Phosphate Resources Limited. Our phosphate mining operations is located on Christmas Island, 2600km north of Perth.  CIP are the major employer on the Island, employing approximately 180 people across its businesses. We have a rich history on Christmas Island and a culturally diverse operation of which we are proud of. Our mature phosphate mining and export operation is governed by relevant Western Australian and Federal legislation, including the WA Mines Safety and Inspection Act.

We are seeking qualified a Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic/Fitter to join our Mobile Plant Maintenance team, which is based on Christmas Island, this is a residential position not FIFO.

Main Roles & Responsibilities

The successful person will be required to diagnose faults, inspect, and test machinery and plant.  The person will carry out repair action required to manufacturers specifications, WA Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations, and relevant Australian standards. 

The person will undertake and complete maintenance tasks as directed by the MPM Lead and MPM Supervisor and will need to also coach and support Apprentices.

Selection Criteria:

  • Hold an Australian recognised Trade Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical Trade (Heavy Duty Diesel Fitting) or equivalent
  • Minimum of 7 years experience as a qualified trades person 
  • Possess a current C class drivers licence
  • Previous work experience in Caterpillar equipment - essential;
  • Rigging and dogging certificates are desirable.
  • A Gantry crane operation certificate is desirable.
  • Possess WA Motor Vehicle Repairers Certificate endorsed for Diesel Fitting Work, Heavy Vehicle and Light Vehicle, Rigging, Dogging & Gantry crane operation Certificates - desirable;
  • Computer literate to perform maintenance of equipment records using PRONTO software an advantage.
  • Good oral & written communication skills - required
  • A positive attitude to work and safety; ability to contribute to continuous improvements

This role requires you to relocate to Christmas Island.
