Far North Queensland Ports Corporation Limited, trading as Ports North, is a company Queensland Government Owned Corporation responsible for managing the port infrastructure and operations at the trading Ports of Cairns, Cape Flattery, Karumba, Mourilyan, Skardon River and community Ports of Quintell Beach and Thursday Island.

As a successful, sustainable port operator Ports North plays a lead role in driving economic development in the region by providing and facilitating vital infrastructure including wharves, jetties and marina facilities, navigation channels, buildings and public facilities.

Location: Cairns, Qld

The General Manager Planning and Infrastructure is accountable for providing leadership in the management of engineering, asset management, planning and environment areas including the development of infrastructure plans, asset management strategies and delivery of capital projects to achieve corporate objectives. Reporting to the CEO, specific responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the provision of all engineering and technical services;
  • Manage infrastructure development, port planning and major maintenance programs;
  • Lead channel dredging and bed levelling in Cairns, Karumba and Mourilyan;
  • Drive the development and implementation of asset management strategies;
  • Undertake project planning and environmental approvals;
  • Implement Environmental Management System in all ports;
  • Manage works programs and budgets to meet long term operational and maintenance objectives;
  • Maintain positive and constructive relationships with all stakeholders;
  • Promote safety, environmental awareness and risk management in compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.

This role will appeal to exceptional leaders with substantial and successful experience in engineering for infrastructure companies such as ports, heavy industry, or logistics. Tertiary qualifications in Engineering are essential. Personal attributes will include superior interpersonal and communication skills, together with the ability to lead and motivate others in a dynamic environment.
