With this PhD scholarship, you will undertake research for the Lorne Smart Sewer project, aimed at developing early warning and blockage detection in sewer pipes. The position will be based out of Deakin Universitys Waurn Ponds campus in Geelong, and is sponsored by Barwon Water and IWN.
Your work will contribute to the development of new techniques for blockage detection and sewer spill early warning. It forms part of the Victorian water industrys commitment to developing innovative solutions to improve network operations through smart sensing technology and advanced data analytics.
Who are we looking for
A suitably qualified graduate or engineer, or a water industry professional looking for a compelling change. The position is open to domestic and international students.
If successful, you will need to enrol at Deakin University, and meet the eligibility requirements for domestic or international students.

Working with Barwon Water engineers, IWN professionals and Deakin University researchers
Professional network and partnership opportunities through IWN
A combination of fundamental and applied research to address a real world problem and contribute new knowledge to the field of water asset management
A mix of numerical, laboratory and fieldwork
The ability to guide future sewerage system management decisions
Working in spectacular coastal areas in Victorias southwest
The scholarship package
$40,000 per annum tax-free stipend (average stipend across the three years )
$15,000 operating budget (across 3 years) - estimated operating allowance may vary depending on research project requirements
$3,000 conference support package (across 3 years)
Potential water industry internship throughout term of PhD
