Environmental Advisor

Middlemount Coal Pty Ltd is an incorporated joint venture between Yancoal Australia and Peabody PCI Australia.  The mine produces approximately 5.4 million tonnes of medium-volatile pulverized coal injection (PCI) coal and semi-hard coking coal for the export market.

Middlemount Coal is seeking to appoint an experienced Environmental Advisor to join our dynamic team. You will be responsible for environmental and cultural heritage management, approvals, and community relations.


Reporting to the Environmental Manager, this position is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of environmental management standards for the mine.

 

As the Advisor you will be required to give specialised and accurate environmental advice and create a culture of environmental awareness across the leadership team and workforce.

 

Position Accountabilities:

  • Assist with developing, implementing and maintaining the environmental management system, environmental management plans and procedures to ensure compliance is maintained on site.
  • Prepare and deliver environmental training to employees and contractors.      
  • Management and completion of environmental monitoring and reporting requirements e.g. air, noise, ecological surveys, receiving groundwater.
  • Prepare and meet all external reporting obligations i.e. Water Balance, Annual Environmental Returns etc and assist with ongoing project approvals.
  • Management of contractors and consultants and ensuring conformance to company SHMS System.
  • Prepare for internal and external audits and undertake workplace inspections
  • Maintain awareness of existing and developing environmental legislation and company standards.
  • Ensure commercial activities are approved and accounted for and maintained within budget.

About You:

It is preferred that you will have tertiary qualifications in Environmental science, engineering or equivalent.

You must have a strong commitment to safety and a proven understanding of mining and environment legislations. Knowledge of ISO14001 systems and experience in environmental risk identification and management, including monitoring, inspections and auditing is preferred.
 

This is a permanent role with an excellent remuneration package.  This role is Monday to Friday, options are available for DIDO, FIFO or residing locally.
