The Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre (SBEnrc), established on 1 January 2010 is a key research broker between industry, government and research organisations, servicing the built environment industry. The three research streams focus on environmental, social and economic sustainability, areas identified by national industry partners as the key areas that will drive efficiency and industry development in the built environment industry.
  
The SBEnrc’s key objectives are to implement an outstanding collaborative and strategic approach to built environment research in Australia, collaborating across organisational, state and national boundaries to develop a strong network of built environment research partners. They seek to establish members as international leaders in sustainable built environment research and practice, leading the international research agenda, and to attract new research students to study at member universities and provide research training and linkage opportunities for members.
  
Your new role

We have an opportunity for an experienced Business Manager to join the Centre and support to the CEO on a range of operational issues to assist the CEO in meeting the portfolio’s objectives and run all of the business functions of the SBEnrc.  This is a part time role (0.6 FTE), working Monday – Thursday, with flexibility around hours worked.
  
In this role you will:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Centre.
  • Assist the CEO with the development and review of strategic and operational plans, providing them with briefing papers and draft reports.
  • Provide interpretation and advice to the CEO and staff on operational and regulatory matters, and manage all reporting, compliance and contractual obligations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and commercial opportunities with external partners, through effective communications and events.
  • In conjunction with the CEO, manage the Centre’s annual budget, and forecast process, for reporting to the Governing Board.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge on the Centre’s financial commitments and business objectives to provide advice to the CEO on budget strategies, planning, and financial position.
  • Identify and develop as appropriate management information and benchmarking metrics on financial data, workforce planning, assets to contribute to informed discussion and decision-making.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, ensure that the Centre’s commitments under the Centre Agreement (funding agreement) are met.
  • Manage all of the Centre’s contract matters in liaison with Curtin’s ROC team and external stakeholders.
  • Manage Centre and project communications incuding content management on the website, outputs via social media channels (YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Coordinate Centre events
  • Act as Secretary for the Board and/or relevant committees.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and considerable relevant experience; or extensive experience in a business administration role; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education training.
  • Strong understanding of financial and budget management.
  • Exceptional business planning, and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables in a dynamic and multifaceted environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and oral communication skills, with the ability to consult with a wide range of internal and external partners.
  • High-level written communication skills with the ability to prepare high quality reports, briefing papers and correspondence.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and effectively within the team as well as the ability to manage and direct the work of other staff.
  • Proven ability work under limited direction with the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of research environments within the tertiary education sector (desirable).
  • An understanding of the Australian construction industry (desirable).
