Field Assistant - Exploration | FIFO 2/1

DARE is currently recruiting for an experienced Field Assistant to work with a mining exploration company. Field based - 2/1 Roster.

The position is instrumental in supporting a large iron ore and infrastructure project proposed for the Pilbara region, encompassing integrated mining, processing, railroad and port operations. Currently the project is in the initial stages which is centered on multiple Channel Iron Deposits located south-west of Pannawonica

As a Field Assistant you will be responsible for completing a range of essential field support activities and looking after the practical tasks involved in supplying a remote field operation including catering for up to 40 personnel when required. Primary role will be to cook / clean.

Role and Responsibility :

  • Ensure all work is undertaken in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with statutory requirements, industry best practice and company policies & procedures.
  • Maintain a high level of personal hygiene.
  • Assist in ensuring all necessary resources are obtained, allocated and managed to companys schedule and specifications.
  • Order, check, pack and distribute equipment and required supplies for field surveys.
  • Provide all sample collection consumables to drill rigs including numbered sample bags (calico and plastic as required).
  • Supervise sample collection during drilling operations ensuring correct procedures are followed and sample loss is kept to a minimum.
  • Collection and audit (correct number of samples collected, number sequence correct and continuous, and, the sample numbers match the assigned number sequence of samples on completion of drill hole).
  • Ensure the timely and accurate dispatch of samples to the nominated laboratory and complete reconciliations of dispatches.
  • Plan appropriate menus ensuring a suitable variety is maintained for all meals whilst ensuring the timely ordering and delivery of supplies to the camps
  • Prepare evening meals as required to support the exploration teams activities. Meals required are:
  1. Breakfast - ensure suitable selection of breakfast options based on a self-serve format. Residents to cook own hot breakfast if desired. From time to time cooked breakfasts may be required.
  2. Lunch - selection of cold ingredients for staff to pack own lunches for the field
  3. Evening meal - minimum 2 choices for hot meals plus a mixed cold selection and dessert.
  • Assist with creating safe work procedures and maintenance documents relating to kitchen, freezers and food storage.

Cleaning Duties:

  • Undertake cleaning of all common areas within the camps as required
  • Clean staff and contractor quarters (rooms) as required
  • Make up visitor rooms as required
  • Ensure resources are correctly cleaned, maintained, safely operated and available as needed to meet schedule requirements.
  • Assist with creating safe work procedures and maintenance documents relating to camp cleaning.


  • 5+ years' experience in a similar role, preferably in a exploration or mining environment
  • Previous remote exploration experience is essential
  • Experience in planning, preparation and serving of food in a camp environment
  • Experience in purchasing and field logistics
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Current 'C' Class licence (or equivalent)
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of four-wheel drive vehicles both on-road and off-road
  • Experience in risk assessment


  • Sound computer skills (MS Office)
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
