General Manager, Business Development

Bartlett Industrial Textile Product Manufacturing is an Australian, family owned company operating from headquarters in Ballarat. They have led the way in developing new fabrication techniques leading to superior and more durable products Their success and growth is based on a total commitment to service and quality, along with the ongoing reinvestment in new technologies.

As the General Manager, Business Development you will work closely with the Senior Management Team and have responsibility for managing the Business Development function across all areas of the business. This is a hands-on role that will require you to drive the business development and sales strategy while performing the cold-calling and door-knocking activities to identify and build long term relationships with new and existing clients. Travel and attendance at industry networking events is required on a regular basis.

Success in this role requires you to:

  • Identify new market and client opportunities, including prospecting, qualifying and converting leads into business opportunities
  • Manage an existing client portfolio; build relationships, learn about the clients business and identify new market opportunities to increase business opportunities
  • Learn and develop a high level of technical product knowledge to be able to sell the Bartlett value proposition
  • Develop strong relationships with clients to effectively influence and negotiate mutually beneficial contracts
  • Prepare and present management reports, business development strategies and plans and cost-benefit analysis to the CEO, Board and Senior Management Team to support recommendations and drive decision-making
  • Enhance the Bartlett brand. From attending networking events, meeting with clients face to face to driving the marketing and branding strategy, you will build relationships with clients, associations and industry representatives

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate a proven track record in a similar type role; with success in driving the strategy while performing the hands-on BD and sales activities. You will be able to network and influence at a corporate level yet be comfortable walking the land with our agriculture clients. Client relationships at Bartletts have been successfully built on understanding the needs of their clients; you will need to be able to show us that you are the kind of leader who loves getting out and about, engaging with clients face to face as this is not an office based role.

You will know that persistence pays off and you will have a structured approach to regularly communicating with clients on a call/visit cycle. Full product training and support will be provided however a technical-mechanical aptitude will be beneficial. The objective with this role is to grow and expand the Bartlett footprint so you will need to be able to show us you love the thrill of the chase, can close the deal and are equally effective at managing the ongoing relationship.

In return we are offering a competitive salary package. This role does not require you to be based from the Ballarat site, however being able to attend the Ballarat site for weekly management meetings will be required. Assistance with setting up a home office is available if required.
