Gur A Baradharaw Kod Sea and Land Council Torres Strait Islander Corporation ICN 7689 ("GBK") was established in 2012 as the peak body of all Registered Native Title Bodies Corporates ("PBCs") in the Torres Strait. GBK as a not-for-profit organisation provides support to the native title holders in the Torres Strait region. GBK is working with all the PBCs in the Torres Strait to build their capacity and fulfil their responsibilities to hold and manage their land and seas in accordance with their traditional laws and customs.
GBK has a new joint venture partnership with My Pathway to deliver the Community Development Program in the Torres Strait region, which is an initiative of, and funded by, the Australian Government. The Joint Venture Partnership "Meriba Ged Ngalpun Mab" aims to connect employment, business and skill development opportunities that honour our traditions and culture to boost community, economic and social development in our region.
About the role
The Senior Support Officer will be required to provide high level support to the Meriba Ged Ngalpun Mab team in implementing the terms of the JV Partnership and the Community Development Program ("CDP") funding obligations for GBK and My Pathway within the Torres Strait region.
Provide confidential and executive administrative support to the Chief Executive Officer, Joint Venture Manager and other executive staff.
Preparation of high level correspondence, briefing papers, reports and submissions.
Coordination of joint venture executive meetings, community meetings and other events.
Excellent administrative and contract management skills to support the Torres Strait delivery team to adhere to the contractual and operational requirements of the Meriba Ged Ngalpun Mab Joint Venture.
Deal professionally with highly sensitive and confidential matters
Work as part of a team to proactively ensure all processes and systems are used in accordance with operational, cultural and compliance needs.
Excellent problem solver with strong communication skills and focused on outcomes.
Coordinate the marketing and public relations activities for the Joint Venture. This includes the coordination and development of Good News Stories for the CDP region and also maintain and upkeep Social Media and the Joint Venture website.
Monitor the monthly expenditure of the Meriba Ged Ngalpun Mab Joint Venture for the region and assist with the collation of financial reporting requirements as per contractual obligations.
Work closely with the Prescribed Body Corporate members to identify community development, economic development and capacity building opportunities.
Coordinate the Torres Strait CDP Community Advisory Board in the region.
Assist with human resource and OHS requirements.
Foster a supportive and cooperative work environment that recognises and rewards achievement.
Skills and experience
Demonstrated commitment to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and an ability to communicate respectfully and effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication, consultation, negotiation, leadership and coaching skills.
Highly developed problem solving, research, conceptual, analytical skills with the ability to develop practical and forward-thinking operational plans and solutions.
High level contract and project management experience
Demonstrated organisational and time coordination skills, self-driven, results-orientated with a positive outlook, a clear focus on high quality and efficient marketing activity.
Skills and/or qualifications in Business Management, Project Management and Community Engagement.
2 years' experience in a similar role.
