Accounts Assistant

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is a unique and exciting opportunity for an organised and self-motivated team player to join our Group Operations team on a part-time basis. This is a busy role where you will be responsible for the efficient and accurate running of the full accounts payable function, providing a high level of customer service and assisting the Accountants as required. This is a great opportunity for a quick learner looking for a step up in their career, seeking to develop and broaden their skills and experience in finance. Demonstrated organisational, time management and task prioritisation skills including the ability to achieve quality outcomes within deadlines will be critical to your success.

Your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Process supplier payments within required timeframes and ensure payments comply with authorisation and validation process;
  • Manage the end to end administration of the Lightyear accounts payable system and associated duties;
  • Liaise with stakeholders as required and provide advice regarding invoice processes and approvals;
  • Forward remittance advice to suppliers within timeframes;
  • Ensure account reconciliations and any required follow up is completed within required timeframes;
  • Refer non-compliance matters to the Accountant and resolve invoice and supplier payment disputes/queries on a timely basis;
  • Maintain records of accounts payable and prepare reports and other documentation as required;
  • Conduct regular reviews of policies and procedures to identify areas for improvement and continually review and update the account payments processes;
  • Assist the Finance Manager and Accountants with projects and accounting support for all Fresh Hope agencies when necessary;
  • Assist in the coordination and management of month end processes;
  • Ad hoc tasks assigned.

To be successful in your new role you will need to demonstrate:

  • Possess a tertiary qualification in Finance or demonstrated equivalent competency in accounts or a similar role within the corporate environment;
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook);
  • Developed written and verbal communication and customer service skills;
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy with excellent numerical and analytical skills;
  • Understanding of general ledger and financial implications of accounts payable based transactions;
  • Organisational, time management and task prioritisation skills;
  • Ability to work in a team environment and also independently to deliver results;
  • Communication and interpersonal skills with a range of stakeholders;
  • Experience using an automated accounts payable invoice processing system (desirable);
  • Two years accounting experience (desirable).

Remuneration is based on experience and capability. As an additional benefit there is a tax-free component of your remuneration available under the Public Benevolent Institution.
