Ballarat Gold Mine is owned and operated by Castlemaine Goldfields Pty Ltd (CGT) and is a successful gold explorer and producer with four significant goldfields in Central Victoria
Our primary focus is the high-grade underground gold mine in Ballarat, which started producing gold in September 2011.
We are now seeking qualified and motivated Mining Engineers with experience in the full Mine Control function to join us at the Ballarat Gold Mine.
About the role:
As a Mining Engineer in Mine Control with Ballarat Gold Mine, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the Mine Control function, recording the information of underground operations and equipment to empower and drive high mining performance.
This opportunity is well suited to someone with a strong understanding of underground mining operations, fleet management system, and data analytics. You will have strong people leadership capability and be looking to be part of a team actively shaping processes and contributing to exceeding safety and production targets.
Key duties of the role include:
Conducting preliminary surveys of the underground resource deposits with the prospectors, geologists, geophysicists and other mining experts to determine the resources present, the feasibility of extracting the reserves, and the design and development of the extraction process.
Preparing operation and project cost estimates and production schedules, and reporting progress, production and costs compared to the budget
Develop & maintain improvement projects for Underground Mine Control in relation to Mining productivity and asset management with Time Usage Model implementation;
Determining the most methods for extraction process whilst taking account of factors including depth of overburden, attitude and physical characteristics of deposits and surrounding strata.
Prepare plans for tunnels and chambers, location and construction of mine shafts, layout of mine development and the application of appropriate mining techniques, sometimes using computer modelling.
Support site security duties;
Determining the safety of the processes, order of extraction and safety of mine walls, evaluating the risk of slippage and taking precautions for slippages and rock falls.
Planning and coordinating the utilisation of labour and equipment consisting of efficiency targets, statutes, safety guidelines and environmental conditions
Planning and conducting research Recording underground operations and equipment data as a single point of reference for execution teams, Mine Control and Production Coordinators;
Determination of location for drilling and extractions;
Remotely monitor and control underground equipment and assist in the delivery of planned activities to meet daily targets;
Validate equipment performance and instrument values on every shift basis as per Time Usage Model;
Generating the daily/weekly/monthly reports for underground mining performance.
To be considered for this role you will meet the following criteria:
Experience using SCADA control systems
Excellent communication skills
Interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team
Ability to make timely decisions and work under pressure
Advanced Excel Skills
Data analytic skills with Power BI knowledge
High level attention to detail
Minimum tertiary level qualification in mining engineering
Extensive engineering/operational experience, predominantly in hard rock mining and narrow vein mining (preferred)
