ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Australian Indigenous Doctors Association Ltd is the national body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and medical students. Our purpose is to contribute to equitable health and life outcomes, and the cultural wellbeing of Indigenous people by increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students and doctors, and supporting a culturally safe healthcare system. As a peak organisation, we are represented on over 45 committees nationally and collaborate with a range of key stakeholders and affiliated organisations.

 ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Policy Manager, the Membership Engagement Officer will be an integral part of the AIDA team and will work collaboratively across the organisations and its key stakeholders to grow and manage AIDAs membership and related functions.

The roles responsibilities include:

  • Lead work on AIDA membership and engagement
  • Oversee the AIDA membership committee
  • In consultation with AIDA senior executive, develop the AIDA member benefits package
  • Oversee membership engagement growth and renewals
  • Coordinate membership networking events
  • Facilitate membership mentoring opportunities
  • Manage and maintain membership data
  • Coordinate the research and writing of good news stories on AIDAs members
  • Develop relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of current and historical issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples
  • Communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement systems that enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of the organisation
  • Effectively liaise, negotiate and influence a range of stakeholders in government, non-government and corporate sectors including both Indigenous and non-Indigenous stakeholders
  • Effective contribution to AIDAs organisational outcomes, strategic directions, planning, implementation, evaluation and quality improvement
  • Effective representation of AIDA in a range of settings
  • Providing timely updates and input to cross-team outcomes that support organisational goals and deliverables
  • Effective records management
  • Working as an effective member of the AIDA team including building relationships across AIDA to achieve organisational outcomes

ABOUT YOU

You will be an experienced administrations officer who  identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, and you will be confident in your ability to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, members of the health sector and a range of other stakeholders. To be successful in this role you will be:

  • An experienced administrator or project officer who is motivated to join AIDA
  • Highly organised and experienced with delivering events
  • A quick learner who can understand membership systems, spreadsheets and other record keeping systems
  • Able to show experience working in a role which is fast paced and challenging
  • Thinks creatively and has courage to bring new  ideas and innovations forward
  • Understands project management and has experience as a project officer
  • A person who takes pride in their work and consistently delivers to a high standard
  • Stakeholder management skills
  • Able to write well and express yourself clearly and with confidence

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person including having demonstrated an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and issues relating to health and education.. Please note: your application will not be considered if you do not clearly identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person under the Special Measures under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.
  • Must have administration experience and/or project officer experience
  • Have Certificate level qualifications, or other relevant education or experience

  • Quick learner and able to learn new systems and processes, and use them effectively
  • Good written skills
  • Strong networks with Indigenous people, organisations and stakeholders relevant to the role
