Fund Accountant

New Forests (www.newforests.com.au) seeks a qualified candidate for the newly created position of Fund Accountant. As part of our Finance team, you will be primarily responsible for managing all fund related accounting and assisting with client reporting. This is a hands-on role, ideal for a professional looking for an exciting challenge.

We manage sustainable timber plantations, natural forests, forest carbon projects, rural land, and processing infrastructure. New Forests is headquartered in Sydney with offices in San Francisco, Singapore, New Zealand and Melbourne. 

Reporting to Associate Director, Finance. In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Monthly, quarterly and annual fund reporting for the ANZ and Asian businesses
  • Annual financial statement preparation and management of the audit process
  • Managing all month-end processes, treasury and tax for various fund entities
  • Assisting with performance and return data reporting (quarterly and annually for alternative assets)
  • Managing relationships and reporting to external investors
  • Completing ad-hoc financial analysis for both internal and external clients
  • Liaising with our Investor Services team to complete client reports
  • Assisting the associate Director, Finance, with financial analysis and special projects
  • Evaluating, improving and streamlining reporting processes.

We are seeking candidates with the following experience and qualifications:

  • Undergraduate and/ or postgraduate degree in Accounting/Business or Finance
  • Newly qualified CA or CPA (ideally first mover out of public practice)
  • 2-5 years accounting or audit experience. Private equity or alternative assets experience, preferred.
  • An understanding of trust distributions and taxation
  • Thorough understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, with the confidence to move to general purpose Tier 2 financial reporting from special purpose, in FY21
  • Exposure to institutional clients
  • Demonstration of process improvement/re-engineering experience to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior attention to detail
  • A team player, with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, whilst thriving in a team environment, working towards a common goal
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Interest in/knowledge of sustainability and impact investing, well regarded.
