Health & Safety Manager

Full time, permanent role, Workplace Flexibility, Gladstone based.

About the Company

The Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a commercial Statutory Authority whose purpose is to supply water in bulk to major consumers in the Gladstone Region. Those consumers comprise major industries, power generating organisations, and the Gladstone Regional Council.  GAWB manages a variety of assets ranging from major water storage through to pump stations, pipelines, storage tanks and water treatment plants and operates and maintains recreational facilities and fish fingerling production facilities and stocking programs.

About the Role

GAWB is on a journey of cultural transformation and  requires a Health and Safety Manager to balance both an operational and a strategic focus to advance GAWBs ISO certified safety management system. Whilst there is a compliance component to the role, the position holder  must be effective in influencing for the desired change in safety behaviours across the business.

Under the stewardship of the Chief Governance Officer, this position is the custodian of GAWBs safety management system.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain GAWBs safety management system
  • Provide advice, information, instruction and training to staff and contractors on:
    • Work Health & Safety obligations.
    • GAWBs safety management system.
    • Relevant guidelines, and legislative requirements.
  • Develop and maintain safety metrics, including lead and lag indicators.
  • Undertake and assist with incident investigations.
  • Perform the Return to Work Coordinator (RTW) function on behalf of
    GAWB
  • Manage the drug and alcohol testing program.

About You

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated individual who possesses the following qualifications, experience and capabilities:

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Qualified to audit management systems.
  • Extensive operational experience in a senior role as a Health & Safety Manager.
  • Extensive knowledge of work health and safety legislation.
  • Solid understanding of the requirements of ISO 45001.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to undertake data analysis, trend analysis and monitoring of reporting statistics.
  • ICAM (or comparable) training.
