Cermak Peterka Petersen Pty. Ltd. (CPP) is a leading global wind engineering consultancy with an expanding office in St. Peters, Sydney. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic senior wind engineering consultant to work within our engineering office and wind tunnel laboratory.
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in wind engineering consulting, or alternatively a minimum of 3 years of experience in structural engineering, structural dynamics or faade engineering, and can demonstrate a sound knowledge of wind engineering basics and associated experimental wind tunnel techniques typically used in the building industry to determine wind loads and pressures on buildings. They will have a desire to liaise directly with clients and develop a client network. They will enjoy working on highly technical and challenging engineering problems. They will enjoy technical writing and presentations and have a general interest in fluid mechanics, structural dynamics, and/or structural design of buildings.
The successful applicant will be offered training and support with the opportunity of career advancement within the field of wind engineering. The duties include, but are not limited to:
Technical project management of wind tunnel-based engineering projects with specialist technical staff and resources.
Preparation of project engineering data analysis, reports and other technical documents including proposals and tenders.
Client liaison, and business development activities.
Provide support to senior engineering and management staff.
Assist in design, preparation and management of wind tunnel experiment projects and subsequent data analysis.
Work closely with CPP's technical specialists in a collaborative team environment.
Utilise and assist development of engineering software analysis tools typically programmed using Matlab and LabView.
Requirements for the role:
Honours Degree in Aeronautical, Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 3 years of experience on technical wind engineering projects, or other relevant experience within a consulting environment.
Can demonstrate experience and understanding of wind tunnel based structural and environmental wind engineering studies of buildings and civil structures.
Experience participating in business development activities and preparation of proposals and tenders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to read detailed architectural drawings.
Ability to work as part of a small but diverse team.
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of computer programming.
Ability to work within QA systems and procedures, as well as work within Occupational Health and Safety practices.
Desirable requirements for the role:
Previous experience working as a wind engineering consultant within a specialist wind engineering consultancy firm.
Detailed knowledge and experience in wind tunnel-based building structural assessments, faade loading assessments, wind comfort studies and associated analytical techniques.
Experience utilising experimental techniques and knowledge of typical wind tunnel instrumentation such as anemometry and pressure and force measurement equipment.
Proficient in Matlab and/or Labview technical programming languages.
Basic understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
