Capability Engineer

NIOA is Australasias leading supplier of firearms, ammunition, and related products, servicing the commercial, law enforcement and military markets to the Australian and New Zealand Defence and Law Enforcement communities.

NIOA is expanding its operations in Benalla, located in regional Victoria, and is experiencing a period of significant growth. Multiple local employment opportunities are arising for various roles within the Benalla operation.

NIOA is currently seeking a Capability Engineer to successfully support the Engineering Manager in all aspects of ensuring the full capability of the Engineering processes are implemented and adhered to, whilst reaching maximum output and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager - Benalla:

  • Apply the Engineering Management System and directives of the Chief Engineer into goals and actions that enable the strategic goals of the business.
  • Implementation of all engineering and safety instructions through engineering programs and contracts
  • Draft relevant plans and procedures, in support of contract/s.
  • Responsible for the execution of technical elements of capability reviews including analysis of extant manufacturing capability.
  • Supports the evaluation business cases and reviews feasibility of establishing capability.
  • Participate in working groups for establishment of capability with OEM partners.
  • Attend customer meetings and reviews, such as system reviews, Detailed Design, and Production Readiness.
  • Encourage information sharing among business functions and the wider stakeholder community to improve the performance of the company.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in explosive ordnance manufacturing / production including the incorporation of primary and high explosives.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishment of manufacturing capability (greenfield, or brownfield expansion).
  • More than 10 years related work experience.
  • Excellent application experience and knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or similar approaches to efficient workplaces.
  • Finely tuned Manufacturing Automation experience at the design, implementation, and maintenance phases.
  • Member of the Institute of Engineers Australia (IEAust) or an equivalent, preferably chartered, or eligible to apply for chartered status (CPEng, CEngT or CEngO), or equivalent.

  • Drivers Licence.
  • NEGATIVE VETTING LEVEL 1 Security Clearance or ability to acquire one.
  • Australian Citizenship.
  • Must not be a denied person under ITAR / EAR.
