About Hehirs Grain Storage 

Hehir's Grain Storage was established in Rand in 1999 with 3 onsite silos. Growing throughout the years, we now have the capacity to store over 160,000 tonnes at our various storage facilities throughout the Riverina Region. Our dedicated grain services team have the ability to store wheat, barley and canola from a number of local growers. 

 

About the role

Reporting to the Grain Services Manager, your focus will be on ensuring the efficient and safe operations of the site and assisting the Grain Services Manager with all the grain storage and handling processes and functions, At harvest, you will be responsible for the day to day supervision, direction and leadership of employees and contractors at site.  This is a hands-on role where you will be leading by example and training staff.

The Site Supervisor needs to be able to assume the responsibilities of the Grain Services Manager at various times during the year when the Manager is absent or on leave.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring all OH&S policies and procedures are followed
  • Build and maintain staff and client relationships
  • Manage a grain site during harvest
  • Supervise and train staff at grain sites
  • Assist recruitment of staff for grain sites with GSM
  • Enforce and supervise OH&S procedures of all company staff
  • Administer first aid in relation to your level of training
  • Operate machinery
  • Supervise and assist with silo, shed and bunker inload and outload procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness of storages and site surrounds including fumigation
  • Communicate with and assist in fertiliser and logistics departments as necessary
  • Assisting in maintaining a supportive, inclusive, high performance culture at the site
  • Meeting quality standards in terms of grain classification, grain storage and quality control

 

Essential skills, experience and competencies:

    To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Strong focus on OH&S in the workplace
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong focus on quality management standards
  • Experience in supervising, training, developing and motivating employees
  • Time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects and meet deadlines
  • Experience in using an inventory management system or something similar
  • Flexible, adaptable and hands-on work attitude
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Flexibility as hours may vary during peak harvest and busy out-loading times
  • Computer skills including MS Office
  • A current drivers' license is essential

 

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Frontline management training
  • Experience and understanding of the grain industry including grain husbandry, hygiene, weed control and bunker tarp management
  • Supervisory experience in the grain industry is preferred however not essential as training will be provided

 

Licences/tickets in the following areas would be highly regarded:

  • Confined Space Entry
  • Grain Classification
  • Fumigation/Pest control
  • Front End Loader
  • Working at Heights
  • Chemical Users Certificate
  • MC Truck Licence
  • First Aid (Min Level 2)
