POSITION DESCRIPTION GRAIN HANDLER 

About Hehirs Grain Storage 

Hehirs Grain Storage was established in Rand in 1999 with 3 onsite silos. Growing throughout the years, we now have the capacity to store over 160,000 tonnes at our various storage facilities throughout the Riverina Region. Our dedicated grain services team have the ability to store wheat, barley and canola from a number of local growers. 

 

About the role

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, your focus will be on receiving, storing, maintaining and out-loading grain, cleaning and maintaining our grain storage facilities. You will be assisting the Site Supervisor with all the grain storage and handling processes and functions. During harvest, you may be responsible for the day to day supervision, direction and leadership of employees and contractors at site.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring all OH&S policies and procedures are followed
  • Assist recruitment of staff for grain sites with GSM
  • Operate machinery
  • Assist with silo, shed and bunker inload and outload procedures
  • Maintain segregation of incoming grain
  • Maintain cleanliness of storages and site surrounds including fumigation
  • Communicate with and assist in fertiliser and logistics departments as necessary
  • Maintain site standards Weed control, grain hygiene, equipment hygiene, tarp management
  • Assisting in maintaining a supportive, inclusive, high performance culture at the site
  • Meeting quality standards in terms of grain classification, grain storage and quality control
  • Assist in managing a grain site during harvest

 

    Essential skills, experience and competencies:

    To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Strong focus on OH&S in the workplace
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management skills and the ability to complete multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Experience in using an inventory management system or something similar
  • Flexible, adaptable and hands-on work attitude
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Flexibility as hours may vary during peak harvest and busy out-loading times
  • Computer skills including MS Office
  • A current drivers' license is essential

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience and understanding of the grain industry including grain husbandry, hygiene, weed control and bunker tarp management
  • Licences/tickets in the following areas would be highly regarded:
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Grain Classification
    • Fumigation/Pest control
    • Front End Loader
    • Working at Heights
    • Chemical Users Certificate
    • MC Truck Licence
    • Senior First Aid
