Depot Manager

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced senior manager to undertake the role of Depot Manager (South Australia) based at Direct Freight Express Adelaide depot.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be accountable for the smooth-running, leadership, cost management of our South Australian operations.  You will be a pro-active leader in your commitment to the role, to lead by example in you actions and lead a team of dedicated employees.

This opportunity will suit a seasoned senior operations leader with a track record of success who is looking for an exciting challenge where they will have the ability to make meaningful change.  There are 2 additional depots based at Berri and Monarto that form part of the overall responsibility of the role.

Position responsibilities includes but is not limited to:

  • Ensure that all operations are conducted in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and legislative requirements, to ensure safety to staff, the community and the environment.
  • Provide strategic direction and control to all operations in order to improve the delivery efficiency of the depot. I.e. oversee freight distribution, bookings, timelines, freight security, freight handling care, special instructions etc.
  • Determine and arrange for weekly and daily labour to ensure efficiencys
  • Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and serviced and that appropriate records are maintained.
  • Support other departments within Direct Freight such as Human Resources, Payroll and Customer Service.
  • Address and assist with Human Resources all employee issues in a professional manner including but not limited to employee performance management and disciplinary procedures
  • Ensure that all Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental directives are implemented accordingly by operations supervisors and other managers. I.e. ensure supervisors have inducted their staff accordingly and safe work practices are encouraged.

 

Skills, attributes and qualifications required to be considered and or successful:

  • Experience within the transport and logistics industry (5 years minimum)
  • Experience within a similar role (5 years minimum)
  • Sound knowledge of business and financial management
  • It is essential that the successful applicant has a full understanding and demonstrated ability of labour costings
  • Must have proven success dealing with people and ensuring compliance with all company policies and work place safety requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations
  • Extensive knowledge of warehousing and distribution best practice
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal
  • Hands on leader who is self-motivated with energy, passion and a positive mindset
  • Ability to adapt to changes in business trends 
  • Analytical and strategic mindset with high attention to detail and finding solutions

This is a full time salaried position requiring the Depot Manager to work Saturday morning's as rostered.
