Craiglee Proprietors is a family run poll merino operation based in Manoora, close to Clare in South Australias Mid North. The business operates up to 14,000 DSE across several sites including properties in the Eastern Districts Pastoral Zone, Mid North, and Fleurieu Peninsula. We pride ourselves on our strong livestock practices and maintain a culture of continual improvement. The family has an interest in regenerative agriculture and is keen to pursue this more.
About the role
We are looking for a livestock manager to handle most aspects of our poll merino operation. This is a full-time position, with the responsibility of managing and implementing day-to-day activities as well as the opportunity to implement long term objectives. The position is mostly based in Manoora, but some assistance is required by the part time staff at the away locations and in time you may be directing these staff. There is scope for future career advancement for the right person. The current owners are on hand to help, but would like to ease back in responsibilities over time.
All operations to ensure the health and productivity of the animals
Managing feed production, including sowing fodder crops, fertility, feed budgeting, stock rotation and supplementation
Co-ordinating shearing and stock movements between properties.
Essential skills/and or qualifications:
Proficient and demonstratable sheep handling skills, including working sheep quietly with dogs
Knowledge of pumps, water systems and small motors
Current and valid drivers license
Ability to ride a motorbike
Ability to drive a tractor and operate other general farm machinery safely
High level of personal fitness
Ability to lift and carry general work-related items up to 30kg without restrictions
Desirable skills/and or qualifications
Knowledge of regenerative agriculture, advanced grazing management and soil biology
Good logistical and time management
Self-direction and motivation
Ability to work in isolation, but also able to get along with and direct others
