The government estimated food waste has cost the Australian economy around $20 billion each year. Australian consumers throw away around 3.1 million tonnes of edible food a year, while there are over 3 million Australians who find themselves unable to afford enough food to feed themselves or their families.
Established in 2005, SecondBite was founded by two individuals who could not continue to see good food go to waste while people go hungry. SecondBite is committed to making a positive difference by sourcing quality, fresh nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste and re-distributing it in a safe and timely manner to agencies supporting people in need. Fast forward to 2020 and SecondBite is now a national organisation that has sites located throughout Australia’s major cities and have connected with over 1,300 community food programs.
The Marketing & Public relations Manager role plays a critical part in ensuring the success of the business moving forward. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a marketing plan that is inline and supports SecondBites Strategic Plan. The plan will incorporate strategies for areas such as Public Relations, Communications, Online and Social Media.
In addition you will also be responsible for implementing this marketing plan across the business. Other responsibilities include:
Oversee the review, development and implementation of SecondBite brand guidelines and manage the application across SecondBite, our donors and charity agencies
Develop content for marketing, collateral and public relations materials
Develop and manage supplier relationships in relation to marketing and PR
Monitor press stories relating to SecondBite and the food rescue industry and maximise opportunities for positive PR and play down any negative PR
Source editorial opportunities, write press releases, act as media liaison and actively develop and maintain effective media networks
Skills & Experience
To be considered for this role it is vital that you are an experienced Marketing professional who is strong across both Social Media and Public Relations. You will also be able to demonstrate an ability to develop, implement and execute on a robust marketing plan. Other key requirements include:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or public relations
Existing relationships with relevant media contacts and agencies
Experience in creating targeted content
Ability to work with a range of stakeholders from a variety of demographics across the community
