At Queensland Rail we pride ourselves on having an unmatched knowledge of rail, leading rail technology as well as extensive experience in mechanised maintenance. We are looking for an experienced Fitter to join our team based in Townsville. As a fitter you will be responsible for ensuring that all infrastructure, plant and equipment is maintained to the required standards.
About the role:
Working on a rotating roster of 9 days on 5 days off on the field or a 5- or 4-day fortnight when working at the Depot, you will need to be available to available to travel and work away from home. You will also need to be available to work some night shifts and weekend work. In additional you will:
Perform servicing, repair and maintenance on a wide variety of equipment from track machines, excavators, bobcats through to small plant including mowers and chainsaws
Use effective troubleshooting methods to repair plant breakdown and minimise downtime.
Follow safe working practices.
Prepare and provide plant maintenance documentation and reports (tablet based).
Source technical information from reference manuals and computer-based systems.
Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade is essential.
Current manual QLD drivers’ licence, MR licence preferable.
Sound diagnostic / problem-solving skills.
Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Confident around machinery and willing to be upskilled to undertake all tasks.
Ability to work cooperatively in a small team.
Proven experience and high skill in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of heavy equipment
Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical
Attention to detail for the completion of daily pre-start checklists and safety compliance paperwork coupled with a commitment to safety is a must.

This is a permanent opportunity with the base salary starting at $57,769 and all-purpose allowance of $3,703.63 per annum + penalties + other allowances
