Our client is a Mechanical and Auto-Electrical servicing, repair and spare parts company that specialises in all makes and models of Trucks, Trailers, Buses, Drill Rigs and Mobile Plant.

They currently operate 5 branches in Australia, with 2 branches located in W.A. based in Kwinana and the Goldfields that cater for wide range of clientele including Mining, Transport & Logistics, Construction, Councils and Heavy Industry.

Due to continuing growth they are seeking several highly experienced Diesel Mechanics to work at their main branches in Kwinana and the Goldfields, on a Temp to Perm basis.

 

About the Job

Due to the nature of the type of work our clients specialises in and has built their reputation on, they require several highly experienced Heavy Diesel or Heavy Vehicle Mechanics with at least 5 years, post trade experience.

The work can is a mix of the following;

  • Workshop Based
  • Field Service
  • Mine Site Rostered FIFO

With an emphasis on technical expertise, the work our client conducts covers several key areas which include;

  • Minor & Major Service
  • Diagnostic Electrical 
  • Minor Repair
  • Major Repair
  • Rebuild & Overhaul
  • Modification and upgrades

The machinery you will be working on covers a large variety which includes;

  • Commercial 4WDs
  • Rigid Trucks 1,2,3, & 4 Axle
  • Prime Movers 1,2,3,4 & 5 Axle
  • Mobile Plant - All varieties
  • Heavy Earth Moving All Varieties
  • Drill RIGS RC, Diamond & Blast
  • Explosive Trucks
  • Semi-Trailers
  • Flat Top Trailers
  • Side Loader Trailers
  • Side and Axle Tipping Trailers
  • Low Loaders

The type of work you will be conducting can be dived into two main categories which are;

  • Diesel Engines & Transmissions
  • Trucks, Trailers & Large Variety of Mobile Plant

I cant emphasize enough that our client is looking for highly technical mechanics and the work is not Change Outs of components. You will require above average skills in;

  • Diagnostic - Electronic Diagnostic Equipment & Visual
  • Major Repair
  • Rebuild & Overhaul
  • Modification and Upgrades

 

Diesel Engines  

The work on diesel engines covers the main engine components such as;

  • Cylinder Heads
  • Piston & Connecting Rods
  • Crankshaft Assembly
  • Camshafts and Engine Timing Gears
  • Fuel Systems Pumps & Injectors
  • Lubrication Systems
  • Cooling Systems
  • Alternators & Starter Motors
  • Transmissions and Transfer Cases
  • Auto Electrical

 

Trucks & Mobile Plant

As with diesel engines and transmissions you will not be doing a great amount of change outs, rather you will be doing diagnostic, major repair and rebuild of the following truck, trailer and mobile plant machinery components such as;

  • Braking Systems Air Brakes, Spring Brakes, Air Disc Brakes, EBS & ABS
  • Drivelines
  • Axles & Wheel Ends - Non-Driving, Front Driving, Rear Driving, Trailer, Semi Floating & Floating
  • Suspension - Leaf Spring, Equalizer Beam & Air Spring
  • Steering Power Steering Assembly, Gears, Pumps, Valves & Cylinders
  • Air Conditioning
  • Auto Electrical

 

Working Days & Hours

The standard workshop working hours and days include;

  • Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Every 2nd Saturday 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM

There will be times when you may work over these hours in circumstances such as carrying out a field service jobs that may go over the allotted time through to meeting deadlines where you may have stay back to complete a job. In these cases, our client is very pragmatic and depending on the circumstances, they can offer extra time off in Liew as well as been paid for the extra time worked.

 

Site FIFO

There are numerous opportunities with our client to work either;

  • Rostered FIFO Various Rotations & Sites
  • Ad Hoc Site Work

For candidates that are seeking an ongoing roster for site FIFO, our client generally will have Mechanics work for 1 to 3 months in the Perth or Kalgoorlie workshops in order to gauge their skills and train them up in operating procedures and systems.

Alternatively, our client does have a high frequency of ad hoc site work which can range from 1-day field service through to major site work where you may spend up to 10 days on site.

 

About the Candidate

I can guarantee that the work our client has, will offer both, variety as well as it been technically challenging work.

We are seeking candidates that consider themselves as above average Heavy Vehicle / Diesel Mechanics, who are usually the mechanics that supervisors give the hard and technical jobs too as they know the job will get done to a high standard, in time and will not be a return job down the track.

You will possess a Mechanical Trade qualification, ideally in Heavy Diesel in Heavy Vehicle however we will consider other trades including Light Vehicle Mechanics, Auto Electricians or Mech Fitters, as long as you have the experience on the main machinery described in this ad.

Essential criteria include;

  • Possess a Mechanical Trade
  • At least 5 years post trade experience working on Diesels, Transmissions, Trucks, Trailers and Mobile Plant
  • Is experienced and competent on Computer Diagnostic Equipment
  • Pass a Medical
  • Pass regular Drug & Alcohol tests
  • Be able to work the hours described above
  • Has a proven work history of staying at job long term and has not jumped around from job to job
  • Is committed to long term work on a permanent basis
  • Possess Initiative, that enjoys challenges
  • Is able to work effectively, autonomously or in a team
  • Has a positive attitude, where you are proactive and does not bring the team down
  • Has a strong work ethic, having excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Although not essential, but preferred, we are also seeking candidates that possess the following;
  • Possess a Heavy Vehicle Repairers Licence
  • Truck Licence HR or MR and above
  • High Risk Fork Lift Ticket

 

Remuneration

As mentioned in this ad, this role is a temp to perm role where the successful candidates will initially have a 3-month trial period working as On-Hire workers through Staff-Net on a casual basis. 

Once you have completed the 3 months and the Workshop Manager is satisfied, you will be hired on a permanent basis, generally at the same rate, you were working on as a casual on-hire worker.

 

On Hire 3 Months

  • $40.00 to $45.00 Per Hour - Weekdays
  • + Super
  • + 25% Loading for Weekends

 

On Perm After 3 months

  • $38.00 to $44.00 Per hour - Weekdays
  • + Super
  • + Approximately $5.00 per hour for site work
  • + 25% Loading for Weekends
  • + 20 Days accrued holiday pay
  • + 10 Leave Sick Leave Entitlements

Site Work

  • + $50.00 to $55.00 per hour on base hourly rate
  • + Site Allowances where applicable
  • + Travel Time Too & From Site
