The Gold Technology Group (GTG) is a research group with a 30 year history of serving the gold/precious metals industry in performing industrially relevant research and development, consulting, software development, training, technology transfer and industry surveys.
  
The GTG resides within the Western Australian School of Mines. It is located on Curtin University’s Perth Campus in Perth and interacts with the academic departments and research centres on the Perth and Kalgoorlie campuses. While this position is based at Curtin’s Bentley Campus it requires travel to mine sites, as well as meetings and conferences around Australia and overseas, to support the research and consultancy work related to the project. 
  
We have an exciting opportunity available for a Metallurgist/Research Engineer, to join the Gold Technology Group team.

In this role you will….

  • Use your intimate knowledge of mineral processing and hydrometallurgical processes and laboratory based characterisation to support plant optimisation.
  • Contribute to laboratory test work programs.
  • Coordinate, plan, execute and report on gold processing plant surveys.
  • Manage the coordination and presentation of short courses in gold processing.
  • Contribute to investigations into recovery of gold from variable ores.
  • Participate in productive research projects with academic and industry partners.
  • Provide HDR students and research associates with advice on complex experiments.
  • Liaise with gold industry site staff for training, site audits and sampling campaigns.

We are looking for someone with…

  • Graduate qualifications in Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field (Chemical/ Science – Chemistry/ Geochemistry) and relevant experience;

Or

  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training with a Postgraduate Diploma (or Master’s degree by course work) in Extractive Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering or a related field.
  • High level practical experience in metallurgical processing of precious and base metals with substantial supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing novel approaches to addressing metallurgical processing problems.
  • High level practical knowledge of mineralogical and process characterisation.
  • Willingness to contribute to a cross-disciplinary team, and an ability to initiate novel technology solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to guide and mentor junior technical staff and assist research students.
  • Experience in the maintenance and operation of an R&D laboratory (desirable).
  • Experience in the development and application of gold process models (desirable).
  • High level knowledge of the mineralogical characterisation equipment such as X-Ray Diffraction, Optical and Electron Microscopy, 3D X-Ray Computed Tomography, X-Ray Fluorescence, LA-ICP-MS, XPS, MP-AES, Raman Spectroscopy (desirable).
