Parks & Gardens Trainee

(Full-time 12 month contract)

In collaboration with the York Community Resource Centre, the Shire is seeking to engage a Trainee Parks and Gardens Officer.

This is an exciting opportunity to work towards a Certificate II in Rural Operations while gaining on-the-job experience.

Duties will include:

  • With guidance from the Leading Hand improve and maintain the quality of all parks and gardens in the York town site.
  • Gardening duties include but are not limited to: mowing, fertilising, planting, pruning, edging, reticulation maintenance, and weed control.
  • Landscaping of new and existing gardens.
  • Report damaged parks and gardens facilities and equipment to supervisor for maintenance and repair.
  • Maintenance and planting of street trees.
  • Talk with visitors to the parks and gardens in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Be an active and engaged member of the Works Depot team who adds value by completing high quality work and who is a positive team member.
  • Operate and maintain light and medium plant.
  • Undertake playing field maintenance, including renovations, mowing, fertilising & reticulation maintenance
