MBE are an Australia family business with nearly 100 years experience in the design & manufacture of quality road making equipment. Over the years MBE have become established as the market leader in the production of Bitumen Spraying Vehicles in Australia. In addition to our Bitumen Sprayers we also manufacture a variety of other machinery such as Aggregate Spreaders for use in infrastructure and road making industries. Since 2017 we have been operating out of our purpose-built manufacturing complex in Altona North, Melbourne.
We are looking to recruit a trainee draftsperson to support the Senior Mechanical Designer with the design of machinery & equipment. This is a junior/trainee position and an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to develop with the support & supervision of senior members of the team. The responsibilities within the role will evolve over time as you demonstrate competency in key skills and understanding.
Typical tasks will include:
Surveying existing componentry, using hand sketches to capture data including critical dimensions.
Converting sketches into 3D CAD models for use in larger assemblies.
3D modelling of components using original 2D legacy data (SolidWorks).
Identifying inconsistencies and/or errors in original 2D drawings & working with the senior designer to resolve.
Production of 2D drawings suitable for fabrication.
Document control including maintaining the drawing register (Microsoft Excel).

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
Problem solving ability with a natural interest in how things work.
High attention to detail.
Ability to sketch & hand draft will be looked on favourably.
Proficiency in basic CAD skills, some 3D experience is be an advantage but not essential.
Completed, currently undertaking or a strong desire to work towards a TAFE drafting or related course.
Willing to learn and adopt a range of established drawing standards and templates.
Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
Comfortable working alongside & communicating with production staff.
Self-motivated with a positive can-do attitude.
Punctual & reliable.
Proficient with Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Able to make the daily commute to our site in Altona North and/or training institutions.
