Senior Fund Accountant

The company

Based in the Melbourne CBD, our client is a dynamic and progressive property business, who are currently expanding their operations into different markets.  They are enjoying a strong period of growth and require a Corporate Fund Accountant.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join the organisation as a Corporate Fund Accountant.  The role is available as a permanent full-time position.  In a high-performing culture, you will report directly into the Financial Controller.  You will be required to manage key relationships, both internally and externally, and across all levels.  The role will include elements of both hands-on and strategic duties, as well as some leadership duties.  It is a diverse role that will cover multiple areas of the business.  

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the integrity of the general ledger and the timely delivery of financial reporting.
  • Assisting the financial control, taxation matters and external reporting of the property trust entities in Australia
  • Preparation of annual / quarterly financial statements (stand alone and consolidated) of Property Funds, including liaison with auditors / tax advisors and other stakeholders
  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger for month-end close for Property Funds, including but not limited to:
    • preparation and posting of month-end journals and accruals;
    • monthly general ledger and bank reconciliations;
    • variance investigation and analysis;
    • fixed asset tax depreciation register maintenance;
    • preparation of consolidated trial balance;
  • Lead the preparation of monthly management reports with commentary incorporating analysis of variances against budget and prior comparative periods.
  • Run GL reports and extracts as required to support the wider team in their day-to-day and period-end activities.
  • Participation in budgeting process for Property Funds, including preparation of underlying workings and files
  • Group reporting
  • Tax compliance 
  • Analysis and investigation of accounting and financial reporting issues, including the preparation of accounting position papers 
  • Weekly cashflow forecasts
  • Ad-hoc project work

The successful candidate

In order to secure this position, you will be both commercially-minded and technically strong.  You will be adaptable and place a strong emphasis on relationship building and business partnering across all levels.  You will be confident interacting at the senior level and able to drive outcomes and processes for the business.  The following will be favourably looked upon:

  • CA/CPA qualifications
  • Relevant industry experience in a complex structure 
  • Experience within a big 4 or mid-tier accounting firm is advantageous
  • Technical accounting experience e.g. taxation/statutory compliance, audit, compliance with accounting standards etc.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and process improvement skills 
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Stakeholder management experience across all levels
  • Outstanding communication skills
