NTGPE is seeking an experienced accountant to join a dedicated team to support the delivery of general practice training in the Northern Territory.
Northern Territory General Practice Education (NTGPE) is a leading regional training organisation educating and training doctors to become outstanding General Practitioners in rural and remote health delivery, Indigenous health and primary health care.
Full time contract position in Darwin to 31 Dec 2021. Working within a small team, the Accountant is responsible for providing a range of financial administrative and support activities including assisting with the preparation of financial reports.
You will be responsible to
Provide high level documentation as required on behalf of/under direction from the Finance Manager (FM) and maintain accurate and accessible records of business documentation
Handle receivable function for the Company, bank reconciliations and aged debtors
Assist with a range of general ledger entries as well as providing support for the end for the month and end of year financial year processes
Process quality BAS, monthly IAS and annual FBT lodgement
Process teaching allowance and practice subsidies payments each term
Check the eligibility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Indigenous Health Training salary claim base on the registrars location and hourly rates
Process the office payroll system in times of staff absences and provide training to new staff when necessary
Review the accuracy of accounts payable entries for weekly pay run and ensure the accounting system is running efficiently and accurately including makingrecomendations to FM on the quality improvement in the accounting system and process
Assist the FM on preparing the company budget, financial statements and grant acquittals as required by the Company, funding bodies and legislation
Ensure that all financial policies, processes and record keeping comply with Company policy, funding body requirements and legislative and regulatory obligations.
administer the Company asset register, ROU assets to ensure proper accounting and procedures for control, monitoring and maintenance
Provide accounting related information to other departments in the organisation such as program manager, housing and travel etc.
Tertiary qualifications in accounting or related discipline and at least 5 years experience in organisation/s that were subject to annual audit
Demonstrate financial accounting and analytical skills, and experience monthly and annual accruals, reconciliations and provisions. Reconciliation and lodgement of ATO requirements, including BAS, IAS, and annual FBT return.
Knowledge of grant funding recording and reporting mechanisms and accounting standards
Maintain and up to date asset register
Demonstrated computer literacy with advanced spreadsheets
Extensive experience on accounting system and ability to adapt to a new system
Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, demonstrate attention to detail and maintain confidentiality in all activities
Experience in the effective delivery of training in financial and budgetary processes; and
An awareness of the application of the principles and practices of cultural sensitivity, workplace diversity, workplace participation and a safe working environment and an ability to apply them to work practices.
Current NT drivers licence
Accounting software such as MYOB Exo Business
