United Spanish Latin American Welfare Centre Incorporated ('United') is a not-for-profit (NFP) organisation and was established in 1977 by a dynamic group of recent arrived migrants as well as refugees from Latin America and Spain. The Agency was incorporated as the Spanish and Latin American Welfare Centre. Until two years ago, the organisation became widely knows by the initial of its Spanish name CELAS (Centro Espaol Latino-Americano de Asistencia Social)

For the past 42 years, the Agency has provided and continues to provide community services. Initially for about two decades, following it establishes  the programs delivered concentrated on facilitating the settlement processes of new and recent arrivals.  However, as the Spanish speaking communities aged, the main focus changed, United begun providing Age Care Services as well as continued to deliver information and educational community support programs.


About the role



  • Ensure accurate payroll processing is completed.
  • Supervise month-end closings and bank reconciliations.
  • Budget preparation for projects and organisation.
  • Manage the employee expense reports review process.
  • Present monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements to executives and board of directors.
  • Coordinate audit activities.
  • Cash management.
  • Cost control.
  • Complete all required statutory reporting to ATO (IAS/BAS), ACNC, Register of Cultural Organisations.
  • Manage business insurances.
  • Work with Treasurer on grant application strategy, grant application budgets and acquittals.
  • Prepare Acquittals and other financial Statements /Reports required by third party funding   authorities including the DHHS.
  • Prepare company FBT, Group payroll, Workcover.
  • Liaise with the external Auditors to conduct annual audit in order to achieve systematic financial reporting and data.
  • Ad-hoc duties as required by the Management Committee.
  • Manage the HCP client budgets and monitoring of income and expenditures across the life of the packages.

This role works closely with the Treasurer but also has discrete tasks, which are performed independently.

Skills and experience



Tertiary qualifications in accounting and financial management (essential)


  • Experience in a similar Accountant role preferred
  • Experience using MYOB AccountRight and E-tools software (essential)
  • Experience in manage my Age Care portal (High desirable)
  • Work experience in a grant-funded environment (desirable)


  • Knowledge of the Spanish Speaking Community, their customs and culture an advantage.
  • Knowledge (or some knowledge) of current Aged Care Community Programs an advantage.


  • High level of communication skills in both Spanish and English.

  • Strong work ethics and hardworking.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Proven leadership skills with a strong focus on interpersonal relationships (essential)


  • The ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for work area. (essential)
  • The ability to think strategically & prioritise competing responsibilities. (essential)
