Horticulturist/Gardener

Eugene Gilligan Garden Design has been involved in the design, establishment and enhancement of Melbourne's finest gardens since 1986. As a result of continuous growth we are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Horticulturalist to join our team. EG Horticulture specialises in the maintenance and soft landscaping of Eugene Gilligan Design gardens throughout Melbourne and country Victoria.

The role:

EG Horticulture offers a service to a wide range of residential clients, which makes this an interesting and varied role. In addition to care of lawns and garden beds, you would be responsible for soil and plant health, specialist pruning, hedging, irrigation and maintenance of water features and garden lighting. The Horticultural Division also carries out the soft landscaping works for Eugene Gilligan Garden Design projects.

You will be required to work a 40 hour, Monday-Friday week. The salary of this position is generous and above award rate. As a staff member at Eugene Gilligan Garden Design you will be a valued member of a small, friendly and supportive team. Eugene is a very active member of the team and you will often be working along side him in the installation and planting of gardens. Like all of our staff, you will be encouraged to develop a long-term career within our company following an initial three month trial period.

Our point of difference: 

EG Horticulture staff are given the opportunity to be involved in gardens from site preparation to completion. This allows our staff to see firsthand all of the stages involved in completing a project. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to develop some skills in landscape along with advancing their skills in Horticulture with one of Melbournes leading garden designers.

About you:

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • A qualification in Horticulture is preferred. Graduates will be considered for this position.
  • Minimum 3 yrs experience in garden maintenance services. 
  • Demonstrated experience in lawn care, perennials, shrubs, trees, pruning and hedging
  • Management of soil health, weeds, pests and diseases
  • Soft landscaping - garden bed preparation, plant set out and planting
  • Safe use of hand and power tools
  • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and positive attitude
  • Hard working, reliable and punctual
  • Professional appearance and presentation
  • Current manual drivers licence. Truck/Van driving experience preferred
  • Based within reasonable travelling distance of our base in Thornbury
  • Australian citizens and Permanent Residents only
