The Role

Our Emerald Branch is currently seeking an experienced Diesel Fitter to join the VLI Diesel workshop team.  The primary function of this position is to complete repairs, overhauls and assembly of equipment and key components according to work instructions including the completion of all relevant documentation.


The position of experienced Fitter requires the right candidate to undertake a variety of duties, some of which include:

  • Ensuring you comply with all VLI HS&E policies and procedures, ensuring policies and procedures are communicated, implemented and enforced.
  • Ensuring equipment repaired/overhauled conforms to specifications and standards.
  • Carrying out the cost efficient and timely maintenance/repairs of new and existing equipment in use in Diesel Operations.
  • Understanding and utilising basic statistical process control procedures in the completing the required tasks.
  • Monitoring the quality of your own work ensuring the quality of equipment manufacture, repair, service and upgrade is up to Mines Department and Australian Standards.
  • Performing routine 103 maintenance checks and repairs on plant and equipment as directed
  • Performing the activity  as Nominated Competent Person (Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2014)
  • Carrying out goods inwards quality inspections of fabricated ExDES components per VLI Procedures



To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Trades Certificate Fitting (desirable would be dual trade Fitting & Boilermaking but not essential)
  • Completed Explosion Diesel Engine System certification preferred but not essential
  • Have previous experience with diesel mining equipment and heavy underground equipment
  • Hydraulic / Pneumatic diagnostic experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Standard 11 Certification preferred but not essential
