Project Engineer

Turosi Pty Ltd is a privately owned Company with facilities in Victoria, Queensland and NSW, providing a full range of raw and cooked food solutions across a range of proteins to the retail and food service sectors. 

An exciting career opportunity exists for an experienced, dedicated and enthusiastic Project Engineer to focus on developing and implementing capital management across three of the Turosi Sites. This role will be reporting to the Site Operations Manager. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Read and interpret technical information and specifications from equipment manuals and manufacturer documentation. 
  • Supervise external contractors, ensuring that safety rules and other company rules are adhered.
  • Adherence and compliance to company OHS, food hygiene, environmental and HR policies and procedures. 
  • To liaise with other departments to optimize productivity and drive improvement projects in a cooperative manner. 
  • Coordinate and lead weekend project works.
  • Drive the installation and commission of new plant and equipment. 
  • Ensure that all engineering works undertaken are compliant with statutory codes and internal standards. 
  • Commitment to and participation in continuous improvement activities. 
  • Providing technical assistance as required for all projects. 
  • Coordination of technical and financial resources within agreed budgets for these projects.
  • Coordinating project design drawings covering all work disciplines, including site plans, process layouts, steel work, drainage routes and electrical and mechanical services etc. 
  • Investigating the environmental impact where required for any projects.
  • Preparing contract and design specifications for external contractors with precise requirements for the tendering process. 
  • Analysing tenders received from external contractors, scheduling variances in pricing and specifications and recommending the most suitable contractor selected. 
  • Interviewing contractors to negotiate the most economical and acceptable tender. 
  • Approving contractors drawings, specifications and technical proposals with respective operations managers. 
  • Organizing and attending meetings to review contractor works carried out to date and agree progress. 
  • Ensuring that any contractor commissioning is carried to the contract specifications with required production protocols being delivered. 
  • Ensuring snagging lists are completed to contract specifications. 
  • Ensuring that training for relevant staff is carried out as per contract. 
  • Ensuring that all payments to and accounts with contractors are closed off correctly, with appropriate payment certification. 
  • Promoting the use of new technology, to reduce project and overall longer term engineering costs. 
  • Developing and utilizing regular professional reporting structures to interested parties (using MS Project. PowerPoint etc.) 
  • Ensuring all new equipment meets the required standards for maintainability, reliability, minimum life cycles and relevant health and safety standards. 

To be successful in this position, you come to us with the following:

An Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree.
Relevant industry experience in project development and delivery.
Experience of leading safety hazard analysis, hazard logs and risk assessments and authoring instructions and safe operating procedures.
Confident verbal and written communication with the ability to clearly articulate complex information to others, and to proactively research supporting information.
