Formed in 1992 following the amalgamation of three smaller community employment organisations, and then expanded with the merger of Continuing Education Bendigo in 2014 and Our Shed in 2015, Access Australia Group (AAG) has grown to what is today a large and diverse not-for-profit, community based organisation. About the role

Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and with supervision of Finance Officers, the Senior Finance Officer is responsible for the general operation of the finance function including accounts receivable and payable, journals and balance sheet.  There is substantial scope to develop and improve organisational systems and this role will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of improved business modelling and business processes.

Main Functions

  • Responsibility for the maintenance of AAGs financial system including general ledger, balance sheet reconciliation and financial control.  This includes preparation and processing of monthly accrual and pre-payment journal entries, funding management, bank reconciliations, debtor management and cashflow reporting.
  • Actively seek opportunities to make financial and organisational systems more effective and work with others to implement system developments.
  • Supervision and support of Finance Officers to ensure that accounts payable and receivable are managed effectively.
  • Development of strong working relations with Managers and staff throughout the organisation to ensure the finance function provides effective support across the business.
  • Understanding diverse funding streams and reporting requirements, including managing National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding.
  • Provision of informative and accurate management and contractual reporting in a timely manner.
  • Maintenance of organisational policies to ensure effective financial control.
  • Compliance with statutory requirements including Business Activity Statement and Fringe Benefits Tax returns.
  • Coordination with auditors and management of year end reporting.
  • Undertake other duties which are appropriate to the position, as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis/project work proactively or as directed to support growth, decision-making and efficient use and allocation of resources.
  • Actively contribute to the development of a culture consistent with the values of AAG.
  • Be proactive in risk identification, notification and management.
  • Contribute to continuous quality and service delivery improvement through the organisation.

Skills and experience


  1. Experience in financial management roles demonstrating experience of key areas of responsibility.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build a high performing team and build strong relations with other stakeholders.
  3. Strong information and communications technology skills, particularly Excel with the ability to lead change for systems improvements.
  4. Ability to self manage and meet deadlines with a high level of diligence and accuracy.
  5. Demonstrated commitment, alignment and role modelling of AAGs values.


  1. Accounting qualifications highly desirable.
  2. Experience working within a not-for-profit or government organisation, including experience in managing NDIS funding.
  3. Experience with QuickBooks/Reckon.
