Assistant Accountant

The Finance Department is responsible for delivering an integrated, sustainable, and high-quality accounting and reporting service to the Michael Cassel Group and its investors in respect of all the Companys activities. 

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for supporting the Production Accountants, the Group Reporting and Compliance Analyst and Creative Development Team on all financial reporting and compliance matters.

Key Functions Include:

  • Process theatre settlements, including review, coding, and analysis to budget;
  • Process weekly payroll journals including preparation and reconciliation of oncosts and leave accruals;
  • Review and process show accruals and production reserves;
  • Review and check invoices from Travel Provider and ensure appropriate coding; 
  • Process weekly fixed fees/retainers in accordance with Creative Contracts;
  • Process Creative royalty calculations in accordance with licence terms and agreed payment cycles (end-to-end) Including Prepare Creative Royalty Statements in accordance with the agreed licence terms;
  • Process Production Credit Card expenses and Departmental expenses; 
  • Review and Process intercompany loans and billbacks; 
  • Reconcile Production bank accounts and credit cards;
  • Assist production & marketing team with Purchase Orders and invoices to ensure all transactions move smoothly through the system; 
  • Assist in the monthly review of the balance sheet including maintaining up to date reconciliations; 
  • Assist Production Accountants with reporting deliverables which may include ad-hoc reports such as Reserve Reports, Recast Reports, Technical Reports, Marketing Reports; 
  • Assist the Production Accountants in Preparing monthly payroll tax and workers comp reconciliations and annual returns;
  • Prepare ATO reports such as BAS, IAS, Non-Resident Withholding Tax Returns;
  • Assist Creative Development Team in project reporting and tracking;
  • Maintain Company Finance files and records;
  • Maintain an audit trail for all work undertaken and liaise with auditors as directed; and 
  • Other duties as required.

  • Degree qualified or trained in Accounting and/or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years successful accounts support in a commercial environment.
  • Excellent accounting skills.
  • Knowledge of general accounting practices, procedures, operations, and legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid computer skills including, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Solid capability with proven ability to develop financial spreadsheets, budgets, and reports.
  • Experience using Xero software desirable.
